The founder and conductor of the Upstate Men’s Choir, Loren Pinkerman, has announced his retirement. Having founded the choir in 2018, this marks the third men’s choir Loren has founded. The Board voted to bestow on Loren the title “Founder and Conductor Emeritus”. Loren will conduct several selections in the Fall Concert and will sing the bass solo with the choir performing “Old Man River”. Loren has named this his “phased retirement”. In remarks made to the choir regarding his retirement he said, “To paraphrase General MacArthur, old conductors never die, they just fade away”.
We are pleased to announce that Robert Mitchell will serve as our Conductor and Artistic Director for the 2025-2026 season.
The Upstate Men’s Choir is open to men in Upstate South Carolina who enjoy singing. Members of the choir come from communities all over the Upstate. We sing a wide variety of choral literature for male voices. The choir frequently sings for luncheons at churches and retirement centers, in addition to full concert appearances. If you are interested in having the choir sing for a luncheon or other program for your organization, please contact our conductor.
We are seeking to grow the choir and you can help up do that by identifying men who might enjoy singing with us. You may contact our conductor, Robert Mitchell, with the name and contact information of potential members. Mr. Mitchell can be reached by email .
